In today’s day and age, when you think of a startup, the first image that comes to mind is a group of college students working together on an idea that they think will make the world a better place. This makes sense because millennials are the largest portion of the modern workforce and “first-generation digital natives who feel at home on the internet.”
Here at VyB, even we are a group of college kids working on an idea that will revolutionize the hospitality industry. The founders of VyB, our CEO, Adit Gupta, President, Mason Cohen, and Chief Marketing Officer, Nico Cohen started VyB when Adit and Mason were in college, and Nico was still in high school.
The VyB TryB consists of all college students with vastly different backgrounds. Some are skilled in marketing, some are skillful business minds and others are very technical. But, we all come together to use all our skills in tandem to make a beautiful product. The best part about working in a young team with people from all backgrounds is that there is always someone to bounce off your ideas from. Another benefit of working in a young and diverse team is that you are continually learning new skills in different areas that help you become a better thinker and well-rounded person.
As a young team, we don’t always see eye to eye. Everyone has their own opinions and ideas that might not resonate with everyone on the team. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Whenever we, as a team, have a difference of opinion, we always try to find a solution that is best for the company. The key to this is open communication and mutual respect. If you want people to hear what you are saying, you should be willing to respect other team members’ ideas. A great thing about working with a young team is that everyone is honest with each other and no one shies away from providing constructive criticism when needed. This helps us become better individuals and, more importantly, better team players.
As a young team of college students, we don’t always want to be serious and over-focused on work. This can cause stress and affect our health adversely. This is why we make sure to have a fun environment where everyone is comfortable and willing to work. From time to time, we do fun activities like playing dumb charades or going out for a company trip to get to know our fellow colleagues outside of work. Organizing fun activities periodically gives team members a chance to get to know their colleagues better and forge a connection of a lifetime.
I personally have enjoyed every single moment of being a part of the VyB TryB and meeting so many amazing people that I can proudly call my friends. Joining a company of young people was one of the best decisions of my life and I look forward to spending more time VyBing with the VyB TryB and learning new things every day.
